The first bar chart demonstrates American marriage and divorce rates from 1970 to 2000. And the second illustrates the married status of adult Americans in two specific years.

According to the first bar chart，the marriage rate was constantly higher than the divorce rate over the thirty-year period. More specifically，in 1970，compared with 1 million of divorced population，the number of marriages stood at 2. 5 millions. Then，the number of marriages remained stable at this level over ten years time. By the contrast，the number of divorces increased steadily to 1. 4 millions. After that，the number of marriages gradually diminished. The number of divorces also experienced a descending in 1990 and 2000（2. 3 millions and 2 millions）.

The second chart is more precise about the different marital status of the Americans in two specific years（1970 & 2000）. The number of divorces people had almost doubled during this these years （3% to 8%），and the data for the never married people had also increased significantly. However，the number of married people declined as been expected from the first chart. Lastly，the widowed American number is also decreased.

Therefore，it can be evidently seen from the charts that the USA marriage rates were substantially higher than the divorce rates over the three decades and the marital status background of the Americans has varied with times.
