Helping poor countries and reducing poverty has been a global-wide common desire,and part of the solution is for developed nations to provide financial aid.However,the idea has been discredited that development can be achieved largely through funding alone.I strongly agree that we need to look for broader ways in which rich nations can make a difference.

The reasons why funding often fails to fulfill its promises are apparent.Countries struggling in poverty generally have little capacity of finance management,which can lead to misusing a large amount of money provided.Many of these countries also have a high level of corruption,making it less likely for the help to reach the general public.Besides,money seems irrelevant and insignificant when people are deprived of some basic needs,including food,potable water and sanitation.

Hence,the need to look for alternatives is beyond question and there are more meaningful ways to help the third world.For rich countries,sharing technologies in basic fields can be a powerful drive for improving the condition of poor nations.Technological advances in agriculture and infrastructure in particular ensure the livelihood of ordinary people in poverty on a daily basis,by increasing food supply and meeting daily needs like electricity.Another possibility is to construct and reform international trade policies,so that economically disadvantaged nations and their people have the opportunity,and for some,the motivation to improve domestic productivity and gain a share of the benefits derived from trade.

In conclusion,since the contribution of funding is indeed limited,I contend that other forms of aid should be considered by rich countries worldwide,in order to achieve a more effective and sustainable outcome in helping the third world countries.Alternatives like technology sharing and trade policies are both feasible and practical.
